Drupal provides a great platform for transparency and collaboration with and among governments and individuals. However, many developers rule it out because they are unsure how to marry Web Content Management (WCM), document management, robust workflow, security and enterprise search within the platform – all generally required of government initiatives.
On the other hand, pure Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems can often be expensive, monolithic and less than adept at providing WCM and community features.
Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) provide an open, standard protocol to connect document and content management systems. This gives governments an opportunity to blend the best of Drupal with the best of an open-document management system, like Alfresco, without sacrificing security, performance or standards.
This presentation will show how Drupal and Alfresco can be used together seamlessly to offer complex document management features through an easy to use and manage interface, all while leveraging the value of open source.
Topics will include:
CMIS overview and benefits
The Drupal/Alfresco integration
How these platforms complement each other
The capabilities achieved through integration
The roles of Drupal, Alfresco and CMIS in the future of government content management
